The Forgotten Manifesto is an on-chain generative reinterpretation of the “Cypherpunk's Manifesto” written by Eric Hughes in 1993. The original manifesto laid the philosophical groundwork for the cypherpunk movement, advocating for the use of strong cryptography as a route to social and political change. These ideas would eventually inspire Bitcoin itself.
Each piece in the collection undergoes a process of visual corruption over time. The text of the manifesto slowly deteriorates, distorts, and fragments as the piece evolves. Once its final state of deterioration is achieved, the piece serves as a metaphor for the modern state of privacy, arguably the opposite of what the original manifesto stands for.
The collection is fully inscribed on Bitcoin, with each edition carrying the complete manifesto text within its on-chain code. The generative algorithm ensures that no two pieces decay in exactly the same way, making each edition a unique visual commentary on the erosion of the principles the cypherpunks fought to protect.
